Allied General is a turn-based strategy game which was developed by Strategic Simulations Inc. and released in 1996. Set in World War II, it allows play of scenarii and campaigns against Axis forces. More a very attractive abstraction than a true simulation, it fits tactical units in strategic level and the opportunity of ugrading them between battles.

One drawback however : whereas the previous Panzer General targeted DOS, Allied General was made for Windows. Nowadays, the good old DOS games are playable on all operating systems through DOSBox, an open source DOS emulator.
